What type of paper or materials are used?
Every product has its own material specifications. For product specifications, including materials, finishes and printing information, select a product:
What is UV coating? How is it different from matte?
Ultra violet coating (UV coating) is featured on the front of business cards and postcards from Costco Business Printing. UV coating is a high-gloss liquid compound coating that is dried with ultraviolet light. The UV finish enriches the vibrancy of colors and the crispness of text and logo designs, and it also serves as a protective layer that is resistant to tearing, smudging, scratching or corner bending.
The soft
matte finish on the back is subtle and smooth – which is easy to write on if
needed.
What does the resolution warning mean?
Each product
has its own resolution specifications. A low resolution warning means that the
resolution of your image or design is too low for the product you are designing,
and may appear blurry or pixelated. If you have a larger version of your photo,
try uploading it again. Visit Image Resolution for more information.
What is a good resolution?

Can I edit my images within the design tool?
When you add an image to a design, you can apply basic edits including zoom,
rotate, crop and scale to fit. Edits to the brightness, contrast or color
should be made prior to uploading.
I’m uploading my own design. What size should it be?
If you are uploading your own product design, we recommend that you follow our design template and upload guidelines, which are specific to each product. To view design templates and guidelines, select a product:
What types of files can I upload?
Costco Business Printing supports the following file types: .jpg, .jpeg, .pdf,
.png, .tif, .tiff, .bmp, and .gif, up to a 50 MB file size. Visit Uploading: Technical Support for more
information.
What are vector-based PDFs?
When uploading your product design, we recommend that your file is a vector-based PDF. Vector graphics are made up of thin lines and curves (“paths”) which can be scaled and resized without losing their quality. Text, logos and illustrations are typically created as vector graphics. By comparison, raster graphics (“bitmap” images) are made up of pixels, which lose their quality and appear grainy or pixelated when zoomed beyond 100%. Photographs are raster images.
Vector graphics
look clear and smooth at any resolution, ideal for print formats – particularly
for large products like banners. If uploading raster images or files, ensure
that they meet the recommended resolution for your product.
What are outlined fonts?
When uploading your product design, we recommend that you use outlined fonts for text elements. Transforming your text into outlines turns the text layer into a layer of vector shapes. This means that the printer will be able to reproduce any font because each character is represented as a geometric shape. It also allows the font to be scaled freely to any resolution, without losing its quality. Keep in mind that once text is converted to outlines, the text will no longer be editable – so this should be one of your final steps.
